Confirmation

Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the “sacraments of Christian initiation,” whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. As true witnesses of Christ, they are more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed (CCC 1245).

More About Confirmation

Confirmation of Children. Confirmation is celebrated in the late winter or early Spring for those children in grade 8 who have properly prepared for the sacrament. Children wishing to receive this Sacrament must be baptized and practicing Catholics, enrolled and attending the Confirmation preparation program.

Confirmation of Teens and Adults. Confirmation of other baptized Christians wishing to profess the Catholic faith and Catholic Adults who have never been confirmed usually occurs during Easter Vigil. Non-Catholic adults and non-confirmed Catholics desiring confirmation attend The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program. Classes meet weekly throughout the year in order to prepare to receive this sacrament.
