Our Related Arts Program
Dive into a world where creativity meets knowledge through our diverse Related Arts Program at Holy Spirit. From the enchanting realms of Library and Art to the harmonious beats of Music, the innovative sphere of Computers, the global perspectives of Foreign Language, and the dynamic energy of Physical Education, we nurture every student's unique talents and interests.
LIBRARY
Library: PreK-8th grade have library once a week. The primary grades enjoy listening to many different stories being read aloud. Grades 4 and 5 learn about the different genres, Newbery Award books and start learning how to research. Middle school focuses on literary devices, author studies and researching online. In 8th grade, student enjoy authoring and producing a book for their 1st grade buddy! A Book Fair is held twice during the school year.
ART
Students in PreK through 8th grade will develop their skills in art through the practice and study of all aspects related to visual art. The students will explore a broad variety of processes including painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, and collage. Students will learn about various artists and art movements, including Renaissance, Gothic, Impressionism, Pop Art, Modernism, and Contemporary Art.
MUSIC
Students grades PK-8 have music once a week. Students have the opportunity to explore different types of instruments and genres of music. There are grade-level performances throughout the year and all students participate in a Christmas performance. Fifth graders learn to play the ukulele, 7th graders enjoy bucket drumming, and 8th graders have an end of the year play.
COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
Students learn keyboarding, coding, and Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Students are also taught digital citizenship. Students K-3 visit the computer lab once a week. Students in grades 4-8 have a 12-week rotation of computers class in the lab during the school year. Students also explore a variety of STEAM activities such as robots, magnetic tiles, Legos, and more!
FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Students in PK-grade 4 will have Spanish once a week, grades 5-8 have class two times a week. The focus varies by level and includes vocabulary, grammar, and conversation. Teachers also include many aspects of Latin American culture through PowerPoints, projects, and activities.
PE
Grades 2-8 have PE class once a week, grades K-1 have PE class twice a week. Students participate in a variety of fun activities focusing on spatial awareness, gross and fine motor skills, coordination, team building, and more. Health classes are incorporated during the year.
